The main entrance is a glass-paned door opening onto Pikk Street. It is the most convenient entrance and exit, and a guiding path begins there, leading visitors to the ticket desk.
Wheelchair users can enter the museum through the brown wooden door located approximately 10 metres to the left when facing the main entrance. It is open during the museum’s opening hours. About one metre after entering through this door, there is a glass door that opens automatically outwards to the left. Immediately after entering, you reach a ramp. Proceed straight for approximately 1.5 metres, then the ramp turns right and leads down to the first floor, to the atrium where the reception area is located.
Approximately 90% of the museum is wheelchair accessible. Access is not available to the rooms above Pikk Street, where there are narrow medieval passageways. The building is the only Old Town tower equipped with a lift. The lift provides audio announcements of the floor numbers.
For visitors with visual impairments, guiding paths lead from the lift to tactile floor plans. There are Braille labels, tactile ship models, audio stories and an audio tour with descriptive narration throughout the exhibition.
A stationary induction loop system is available at the ticket desk and during guided tours. Video stories include sign-language interpretation. Various hands-on features also help visitors with intellectual disabilities understand more complex maritime phenomena.
