Description
Wheelchair Visitors Visitors in wheelchairs can move around the Vabamu Museum without the need for an assistant. Elevators are available for moving between floors, and there are ramps connecting different levels. Since many rooms are small, a wheelchair with a smaller frame is more suitable. The museum has a narrower wheelchair available. There is an accessible toilet on the first floor of the museum, and an accessible parking space next to the museum. Visitors with Strollers Visitors with strollers can comfortably navigate around the Vabamu Museum thanks to the elevators and ramps. Additionally, a lightweight stroller can be borrowed from the ticket office if desired. There is also a changing table in the accessible toilet located on the first floor. Hearing Impaired and Deaf Visitors Hearing impaired and deaf visitors can explore the exhibition with the help of e-guide transcriptions and read texts introducing the exhibits. Groups of visitors with hearing impairments are welcome to participate in tours and museum classes with their sign language interpreter. Visually Impaired and Blind Visitors Depending on the degree of visual impairment, the museum can be visited independently or with an assistant. Just like for regular visitors, there is a smartphone-based e-guide available for the blind. Additionally, there is a tactile path and a portable tactile map. The rooms are mostly dimly lit, but contrasting room signs and indications are used. E-guide reading texts are in white font on a black background. Visiting with a guide dog is permitted. As an additional service, it is possible to pre-order a guided tour with a description interpreter for Vabamu, KGB prison cells, or Tallinn Old Town by emailing broneering@vabamu.ee or calling 6680250. Description Interpretations The permanent exhibition of the Occupations and Freedom Museum Vabamu, “Freedom Without Borders,” is accessible to visually impaired individuals thanks to the description interpretations available here. On-site, visitors can view space plans printed on raised paper. A guiding path helps navigate the exhibition, along with an e-guide available for all visitors.
