St. Catherine's Church, which gave the passage its name, was likely built here over 700 years ago when the site was home to the Dominican St. Catherine's Monastery. The church has only partially survived and can be seen in the northern section of the passage. A unique feature of the site is the collection of 14th- and 15th-century ledger stones displayed on the church's southern wall. The southern edge of the passage is primarily lined with residential buildings dating from the 15th to 17th centuries. St. Catherine's Passage courtyard is one of the most fascinating in Tallinn's Old Town, allowing visitors to walk directly from Vene Street to Müürivahe Street. Retaining its medieval atmosphere, this narrow street serves as a workplace for female artists belonging to the Katariina Guild, which features seven studios. In these open craft workshops, visitors can watch live demonstrations of ceramic making, glassblowing, hat making, and more. The passage is passable with mobility aids. However, assistance is required to enter the stained-glass workshop and the church: the workshop features a high threshold, and the church has one step leading downward. The church floor is on a single level but uneven, as it is paved with stone slabs. Please note that accessible solutions for visitors with visual or hearing impairments are currently unavailable.
